how I got into beekeeping
The two most common questions I get asked are how did you get into beekeeping and do you get stung?
In 2010 I began to pursue a lifelong interest in Bees through a local group in Los Angeles. The meetings were hosted by a gregarious fellow that I consider to be the godfather of urban beekeeping, Kirk-o Bee-o. Learning about these little critters was so compelling that I continued to attend. They also had a Bee Rescue hotline which allowed volunteers the opportunity to rescue swarms. That's how I saved my first swarm, which I kept on the patio of my condo at the time, and I've continued saving hives ever since.
In the years proceeding I founded Save My Bees. A Los Angeles based beehive relocation service. I initially wasn't concerned about harvesting honey. I was more interested in obersvering and letting them bee. This time allowed me to learn and implement the organic management techniques that I still employ.
From spending an abundance of time in nature, to learning from an insect, to meeting all the wonderful people I've met along the way and sharing the knowledge I've gleaned, becoming a beekeeper has been the most thrilling pursuit of my life.
My name is Byron, and I get stung all the time.
